Sometimes,
you may have residents report that the last 4 digits of the bank account
associated to their resident profile do NOT match the last 4 digits of their
actual account.
If this happens, first, please confirm which bank they use. If they use Chase
Bank, there is an explanation!
Chase Bank is one of the major
institutions that employs Tokenized Account Numbers (TAN). We do
not receive raw account data back after verification, but tokens tied to
the true account. This may cause confusion as the
confirmation emails and data shown will be the last four of the token
account number and not the actual account.
The Tokenized Account Number (TAN) is a secure method for our partners to share an account number that can be used for ACH transactions instead of the actual account number. A TAN is comprised of a unique account number, which does not have any similarity to the actual account number beyond basic formatting. Using a TAN reduces the risk of a customer’s account number being compromised.
Since the resident banks with Chase, this is the reason they see an account in Rentcafe that does not appear to be their bank account. However, this is the unique token assigned when they verified their account.
There may be other banks that use this same method, but so far, all reported examples have used Chase.
